Transfer News: Manchester United in pole position to sign Tottenham Hotspur superstar Harry Kane

According to German publication BILD (h/t The Sun), Manchester United are in pole position to secure the signature of Tottenham Hotspur superstar Harry Kane ahead of the summer transfer window. He would certainly be a fine addition to the squad and could even be a necessity depending on how the situation unravels regarding the strike options at the end of this season.

Manchester City have declared Borussia Dortmund striker Erling Haaland as their priority target for next season. That points towards them finally putting an end to their pursuit of Kane, giving the advantage to Man United in the process. Moreover, Ralf Rangnick has demanded the club to bring in a centre-forward due to the situation surrounding Cristiano Ronaldo and Edinson Cavani.

Cavani has less than six months left in his current deal at Old Trafford and is expected to leave next summer. Ronaldo could also end up departing the club after joining them at the start of the current season. And on top of that, Mason Greenwood remains suspended.

Massive chance!

While the Spurs star has had a difficult start to the current season, he looks to be on the way to his best as the campaign goes on. That is the case even when Antonio Conte’s side has struggled with their form in the Premier League in recent weeks.

Cavani, for example, has struggled to maintain fitness this term and has shown barely anything that deserves an extension at the club. As for Ronaldo, his goal scoring prowess is unquestionable, even if it has taken a hit as he nears the end of his playing career.

That being said, Cristiano, however fit he may be, is arguably now in the twilight years of his playing career. Marcus Rashford, who has tried his hand at playing centre-forward before, looks comfortable out wide. Regardless of that, the Englishman’s form is shaky at best right now.

Our interest to bring in Mauricio Pochettino could help us as the Tottenham star is open to playing with his former boss. Pocehttino is touted to leave Paris Saint-Germain next summer, and his eagerness to return to the Premier League could be of great help. Should we appoint him as our next boss, we could see the dynamic duo reuniting in the PL once again- this time at Spurs.

Even if we miss out on the English centre-forward, it is good to know that we have other options on the shortlist. Lautaro Martinez of Inter Milan is named as one such alternative, although we would have to face off against Liverpool and Arsenal to finalise a transfer for the Argentine.
