Transfer News: Inter Milan monitoring the situation of Manchester United forward Anthony Martial
According to transfer news on Il Corriere dello Sport, (h/t Manchester Evening News), Inter Milan could be interested in securing the services of Manchester United ace Anthony Martial. The 26-year-old is currently plying his trade at Sevilla on a loan deal till the end of the season.
The French professional footballer has struggled to pin down a starting position or gain regular minutes at Old Trafford under interim manager Ralf Rangnick. This strained dynamic saw the former AS Monaco player make his way to the Ramon Sanchez-Pizjuan Stadium.
Martial showed a lot of potential when initially joining Man Utd but has struggled to maintain his consistency in the last couple of seasons at the club. It is now believed that the Nerrazuri are monitoring the situation of the French forward as Alexis Sanchez could leave the Giuseppe Meazza Stadium at the end of the season.
In such a situation, the 26-year-old could be seen as a replacement and link up alongside Argentine striker Lautaro Martinez up front. The LOSC Lille striker Jonathan David is also another top target for Inter Milan but could supposedly push for the Manchester United forward.
Can Anthony ‘Martial’ make his way back at Old Trafford?
The French forward made the £36m move from The Monégasques to Manchester United back in 2015. Since then he has gone on to score 79 goals and bag 50 assists in 269 matches across all competitions to date for the Red Devils.
At 26, it still seems as though Martial could have some of the best footballing years ahead of him. Despite this fact, the French international has struggled to make a sustainable impact at the Theatre of Dreams and the club could be running out of patience.
Whilst Marcus Rashford has been used in a central role up front on occasions, it isn’t his natural position. The 24-year-old English forward seems to be more comfortable plying his trade on the wings. Jadon Sancho has also been showing an upturn in form which could be great news for the attacking department at Old Trafford.
The Manchester-based club already has two superstars in Cristiano Ronaldo and Edinson Cavani who can create a substantial impact upfront. That being said, the veteran forwards are now in their 30s and have struggled to match the intensity demanded by Rangnick at times. With this duo being in the twilight of their career, the Red Devils could do themselves a favour by adding suitable replacements in that position.
The club would therefore be looking to add some young blood to tantalise the opposing defenders. With the German coach only being at the helm till the end of the season, it remains to be seen whether or not the next incoming manager will take kindly to the French international.
