Southampton coach Ralph Hasenhuttl dismisses links to Manchester United manager job
Southampton coach Ralph Hasenhuttl has put an end to links that tipped him to become the next Manchester United manager. His side is currently in preparation to face Everton in the Premier League on Saturday as they look to secure a top 10 finish this season.
Hasenhuttl has done a great job at St. Mary’s and has stabilized their status as a dangerous PL team. The Saints were a force to reckon with under Mauricio Pochettino back in the day but lost their way after the Argentine joined Spurs.
Recently, the Saints beat Tottenham Hotspur in the league while also earning important draws against Manchester City and the Red Devils. The Austrian boss specified the issues that Man United were struggling with following the 1-1 result, which eventually resulted in him being linked with the hot-seat at Old Trafford.
Speaking in the pre-match presser (h/t The Sun), the 54-year-old expressed that he does not pay heed to such talks and that his mind is fully focused on the game tomorrow. He added that these rumours do not entertain him in any way and opted against discussing his future prospects.
“These things aren’t interesting me. This is not in my mind. I don’t want to speak about my future. The game we have against Everton is more interesting for me and my whole energy and whole focus is on this game.”
A blow but not a blow?
With Rangnick only managing us in an interim capacity, the Saints boss would have been a solid option to succeed. Both of them worked together during their time at RB Leipzig, which certainly makes the prospect of signing him even more interesting.
In all honesty, these links would perhaps flatter Hasenhuttl. The Austrian, who enjoyed a decent playing career at Austria Wien and Austria Salzburg, is yet to win a major trophy in his managerial career, with Ingolstadt’s 2. Bundesliga win in the 2014-15 season perhaps the highlight of his stint on the sidelines.
That being said, trophies should not be the only metric to judge a manager’s capabilities by. Nevertheless, United are in a period where they need a proven, top-quality and experienced man to take over the helm and guide this team full of superstars in the right direction.

With others targets like Paris Saint-Germain’s Mauricio Pochettino and Ajax’s Erik ten Hag on the shortlist, it may not be a wise choice on the board’s part to chase after Hasenhuttl. With the managerial uncertainty still at large, it remains to be seen how this situation develops ahead of the next term.
