Manchester United interim manager Ralf Rangnick provides team news ahead of Arsenal clash.
Man United were on the back of a 1-1 draw against Burnley before facing off against the Saints. Dropping points against Ralph Hasenhuttl’s side has further added to their shortcoming in recent times despite their improvements in performances. However, their failure to sustain it throughout ninety minutes has played a part in these setbacks.
According to ESPN, Rangnick has mentioned that Solskjaer would also be responsible if the Red Devils fail to qualify for the Champions League next season. He pointed out the situation in which the former boss left Old Trafford but also claimed that the recent results add to the misery.
“It [not finishing in the top four] has always been a concern since Ole left the club. That was one of the reasons why he probably had to leave the club and of course results like [Southampton] doesn’t make things any easier. This is what we have to face. We have to realise the truth and obviously with results like this it doesn’t make it any easier to finish fourth at the end.”
The German coach has admitted that he is concerned about the Manchester club’s chances of having a top-four finish in the league this season. One cannot take this as a case of him just shifting the entire blame onto our former manager. After all, he did say that the current form also plays a role in it.
ass="amp-ad-wrapper amp-ad-wrapper-rspv amp_ad_1 ampforwp-incontent-ampforwp-incontent-ad ampforwp-incontent-ad2">That being said, Ole is majorly at fault for this situation as we had gone on a terrible run of form towards the latter end of his managerial tenure. But the problem wasn’t only with the Norwegian. Our board was probably a bit too late to sack the ex-Cardiff City manager anyway.
Moreover, the way the players cannot build on their excellent displays in the first half could pertain to the fact that they are not physically ready to meet the 63-year-old boss’ demands. He is renowned for using a high pressing tactical structure which could be too much for our squad.
We must turn this slump around as we are on the cusp of making a breakthrough, looking at our opening 45-minute performances. Whether that will happen or not would only be known in due time.
As for Rangnick’s comments on Ole, it is perhaps just his way of getting some heat off his own back. He isn’t wrong in suggesting that Solskjaer had a role to play in our struggles this season, but one can argue that the situation has been grim ever since Sir Alex Ferguson left the club in 2013.
