Luke Shaw warns Manchester United teammates that history is repeating itself at Old Trafford

According to MUTV (h/t The Mirror), Manchester United star, Luke Shaw has sounded out a warning to his teammates to not throw away any more points in the Premier League.

The Red Devils were left frustrated once again at the weekend after they dropped two points at home to Southampton. Jadon Sancho gave the side the lead in the first half but the Saints hit back after the break and could have in all honestly gone away with all three points in the bag.

Man United have now dropped nine points in their last six Premier League games, throwing away a fantastic opportunity to make a case for the fourth spot. Instead, they now find themselves well within the mix with several other teams vying for Champions League qualification.

With games against Manchester City, Tottenham Hotspur, Atletico Madrid, Liverpool and Arsenal to come, the task does not get any easier. Shaw appears to recognize this and has warned the club against dropping off. Losing points from winning positions affects morale and the Red Devils star recognizes that.

“I think because we’ve been in that situation so many times, maybe the confidence drops and the composure goes and we struggle.”

What is infuriating is that Man United have, in fact, started matches off well. They carve out several opportunities but fail to put them away. This becomes costly later in the game when Ralf Rangnick’s side inexplicably cede the initiative. It has turned into a trend rather than an anomaly and Shaw is right in pointing it out.

“I think history is sort of repeating itself, really.”

Manchester United have struggled massively in recent weeks.

Shaw has every right to point out the club’s shortcomings. Ironically enough, he will do well to look in the mirror himself. The English international has failed to anchor his flank and has often been guilty of leaving his target unmarked.

The 26-year-old is part of the problem and will need to improve his own game before worrying about others. Pointing fingers is never a good approach given that you are also falling short of expectations.

Man United welcome Brighton and Hove Albion to Old Trafford on 15th February in a game that will be far from easy. Graham Potter’s side has done well this season and is establishing themselves as a solid Premier League side.

Ralf Rangnick’s side has received several let off from rival clubs in the top four race. Both Tottenham Hotspur and West Ham United have lost points while Arsenal are yet to play their games in hand. These opportunities will matter for little unless Man United also get points on the board.
