Barcelona lead Manchester United in the race to sign AC Milan midfielder Franck Kessie
According to the Spanish publication Marca (h/t The Sun), Barcelona are leading the race to secure the signature of AC Milan midfielder Franck Kessie amidst interest from Manchester United. Currently in the final few months of his contract at the San Siro, the Ivorian appears set to leave the club on a free next summer.
Kessie has less than six months left in his current deal with Milan, prompting several sides to keep an eye on developments. The midfielder could sign a pre-contract agreement with clubs outside Italy if he has already made up his mind to move elsewhere. Since he is set to leave at the end of the season, we cannot rule out that outcome at all.
Tottenham Hotspur are also in the mix as they try to bolster their midfield. However, the 25-year-old has his eyes set on joining the Catalans, dealing a major blow to Man United and Spurs in the process. He prefers to move to La Liga rather than the Premier League, which has pushed Xavi Hernandez’s side into pole position.

Tough blow!
Missing out on the Ivory Coast international is a missed opportunity as Kessie could have added some much-needed steel to our options in the middle of the park. The holding midfielder has been a regular for Milan throughout the season, despite not penning a contract extension.
The Serie A star has racked up 23 appearances this season while garnering seven clean sheets across all competitions. Moreover, he also regularly gets involved in the goal involvement tally, having scored six goals while assisting once in the process.
Signing someone like Kessie should address the imbalance we have in the squad at least as far as the midfield is concerned. There was a large gap between attack and defence in our recent game against Burnley which eventually resulted in them scoring the equaliser. Adding a player who excels in reading the game would help negate opposition players who more often than not are given control of the midfield.

Even though the Blaugrana side are leading the race for the 25-year-old, Man United have a shot at stealing him from under their noses. Qualifying for the Champions League and bringing in a new permanent manager will certainly speed up our preparations ahead of next season.
For that reason, we must reach out to the Rossoneri superstar to keep his options open until we can present our case. Hopefully it is not late for us to provide the winning pitch and secure the services of one of Serie A’s top talents.
