Transfer News: Real Madrid and Arsenal enter race to sign Manchester United target Youri Tielemans
According to Gazet van Antwerpen [Print Edition] via Sport Witness (h/t LeicestershireLive), Real Madrid and Arsenal have entered the race to sign Manchester United target Youri Tielemans ahead of the summer transfer window.
Tielemans will enter the final year of his current contract with Leicester and is supposedly “preparing to leave” them at the end of this term. His agents had already contacted the Gunners last month regarding a potential move in the future. Juventus have also shown an interest in signing him next summer.
The Belgian could be sold for a transfer fee of around £34million as his value will fall next summer due to his contract. Negotiations over a contract renewal between him and the Foxes “came to nothing” and he is yet to renew his deal as a result, according to Het Nieuwsblad via Sport Witness (h/t LeicestershireLive).
More challenges to overcome
Following the arrival of the new competition, we must be careful moving forward so as not to get pipped by them in the future. After all, Los Blancos and the North London side can attract talented individuals and given their global reach, are attractive destinations for most players. But then again, so are United.
20-time Champions of England and thrice the winners of the European Cup/UEFA Champions League, the Red Devils are a global brand that has long been a hub for some of the world’s best players. The signings of Raphael Varane and Cristiano Ronaldo last summer proves that.
As such, we have more than enough reasons to push ahead for a move in the summer transfer window. Since the Premier League ace is looking to leave after this season, it would certainly make our job easier. However, he has plans to play in the Champions League, which means that we must finish in the top four places if we want to land the ex-Anderlecht man.
Tielemans is one of the brightest midfielders in the Premier League and it wouldn’t come as a surprise if he wants to take the next big step in his career. The Foxes have shown promise under Brendan Rodgers but don’t look like a club that can currently pose a massive threat to the ‘big 6’ in England.
Moreover, we can really do with quality in central midfield. Donny van de Beek has surprisingly struggled for minutes even though Scott McTominay and Fred have been painfully average at times in the middle of the park for us. In that regard, Tielemans will add depth and quality if he comes to Old Trafford in the future.
