Flamengo set to reach agreement with Manchester United for Andreas Pereira permanent transfer

According to the Brazilian publication UOL (h/t Manchester Evening News), Flamengo are in line to reach an agreement with Manchester United for the permanent transfer of Andreas Pereira. He has been plying his trade in Brazil after disappointing spells in Europe over the past few years.

The Brazilian side sent their representatives to London to hold discussions with Man United for Pereira. He joined them temporarily the previous summer, and this deal would make his loan move permanent. A verbal agreement for 75 per cent of his “economic rights” has been discussed in the meeting.

The Red Devils could get a fee of up to €14million if certain individual and team clauses are met following this agreement. A large chunk of the proposed fee would be paid through these add-ons in the future. It remains to be seen where talks go from here and if the news becomes official in the coming days.

Good deal?

The transfer fee mentioned above is definitely a good piece of business done by the board- if true. After all, Pereira has never really been a first-team regular and his performances while on loan at Lazio were not convincing enough, resulting in Man United loaning him out once again last summer.

As such, we are financially boosted by this agreement if it actually comes to fruition. The money is not guaranteed just yet since a large part of it is dependent on whether the clauses are met in the future. But looking at how the Man United loanee and his current club has fared recently, we should think positively in that regard.

Through this potential permanent transfer, we would be getting rid of some of the ‘deadwood’ in the squad- however harsh that sounds- while earning a decent amount in the process. Time will tell when this move would be official, or if that is going to be the case at all.

But it would come as no surprise if Pereira’s long-term future is away from Old Trafford. An able dribbler with flair in his game, the Brazilian found it hard to cement a position in the club’s starting XI.

More Manchester United News

It is certainly curious that his most prominent season at Old Trafford in terms of appearances came in 2019/20, which was just before he was sent out on loan to Lazio. For a player that made 40 appearances in all competitions that season, it is certainly surprising that he did not play a single minute for us after that.

Nevertheless, it would be a good move for all parties if he seals a move to Flamengo. At 26, he still has a lot to offer on the pitch and United would be wise to get sound compensation from the Brazilian club for his services.
