According to the Premier League’s official Twitter handle, Manchester United goalkeeper David De Gea has won the EA SPORTS FIFA Player of the Month Award for January 2022. He was sensational last month, having helped his side to fourth in the league table.
De Gea has won the award for the first time in his playing career, indicating how good he has been in January. He leads the charts for the highest number of saves in the league this term, with 84 to his name. The last time a keeper won the individual trophy was way back in February 2016, when Fraser Forster was named as the winner.
The Spaniard featured four times last month and has earned 22 saves to his name, giving him the monthly prize. Even if he had kept only one clean sheet during this time, he played a crucial role in keeping Man United in contention several times during these matches.
David The Saviour
The 31-year-old has arguably been our most consistent player as he took over the reins from Dean Henderson since the start of this season. He has been back to his best as he was in his prime and is gradually cementing his spot as one of PL’s best goalkeepers in the past decade.
The Red Devils ace’s first-half performance against Brentford could arguably be his best stint this month. We were pushed back into a corner but he had saved us on multiple occasions. We eventually won the match 3-1 where he played a major role in helping us do so. He was also decisive in the 1-0 victory against West Ham United as he had a game-winning save late in the match.
