Transfer News: Juventus could make a move for Manchester United star Jesse Lingard next summer
According to the Italian publication Calciomercato (h/t ESPN), Juventus are plotting a move for Manchester United star Jesse Lingard in the upcoming summer transfer window. The Englishman has endured a tough season so far due to the lack of game time, which could pave the way for an exit at the end of this campaign.
Lingard will see his current contract at Old Trafford expire at the end of the 2021-22 season. The attacking midfielder could reach a pre-contract agreement with clubs outside England if he has plans of moving abroad. As a result, several clubs are considering their options to move for him ahead of the 2022-23 campaign.
The Bianconeri have been named as one of those clubs, with Massimiliano Allegri keen on overhauling his squad next summer. The 29-year-old could be subjected to a formal interest in the coming months for that reason. Whether the Old Lady gets their man remains to be seen.
The Italian job
The 29-year-old is expected to leave the club when his current deal expires after this season. As a result, we cannot do much about this situation and hold no power over Lingard’s future. Unless something drastic happens, a contract extension appears to be off the cards, which means that we should prepare for life after him.
If the Red Devils star ends up moving to Allianz Stadium, it would be an acceptable blow since West Ham United and Tottenham Hotspur were interested in signing him last month. Both of them are our direct rivals and it could do us more harm than good if either of them ended up landing Lingard.
The Premier League ace still possesses a lot of quality which was evident when he helped West Ham qualify for this season’s Europa League. Hence, he could replicate that form if he gets similar game time with the Hammers or Spurs, which is bad news for us. Having him take his talents elsewhere, someplace where it cannot affect us directly would be a win-win.

The interest from the Turin-based club is not formally registered just yet and the Man United midfielder could force their hand if he enjoyed a strong second half of the season. Doing so will also aid out the cause of ending the campaign on a strong foot.
