According to The Mirror, Manchester United appear increasingly confident of hiring PSG boss Mauricio Pochettino as their new full-time manager at the end of the season.

The 49-year-old is currently in charge of the French outfit and appears to be on course to win Ligue 1. While they have dominated in the league, Pochettino’s side has looked vulnerable on other fronts.

The Argentine heads the list of potential candidates that the club are considering. Having made a name for himself at Tottenham Hotspur, Pochettino is no stranger to the English game. That should aid him immensely should he be handed the reins to Old Trafford.

Manchester could land Mauricio Pochettino.

The Argentine was amongst the best young managers in world football during his time in North London. Taking over at Paris Saint-Germain was seen as his big opportunity to show off his ability as an elite manager.

While there has been some success, Pochettino’s tie at the Parc des Princes has been underwhelming. Despite the riches of talent at his disposal, Pochettino saw his side lose to OGC Nice in the Cup last month. It is yet another blow for a man who continues to flounder at PSG.

Man United have followed Pochettino’s development since the time he was at Tottenham. Whether they are finally about to land their man remains to be seen. If the recent results are anything to go by, PSG will not stand in our way should we make a move either.

Pochettino has struggled to get going at the Parc des Princes. This is especially important given the fact that he already had a star-studded squad to work with. Several top names were also added last summer but to no avail.

At the end of the day, Pochettino will be judged by what he wins with the French side. With Ligue 1 glory considered to be something his team are heavy favourites for anyway, all eyes will be on how he does in the UEFA Champions League. Another underwhelming campaign and it wouldn’t be a shock to see the Argentine walking.

It is fair to say that Pochettino’s reputation has taken a hit during his time at PSG. It was a godsend for the 49-year-old to manage a truly elite club and he has in fact struggled to make it count.

He will need to manage similar expectations at Old Trafford and it has to be asked why Man United are adamant about hiring him. The likes of Erik ten Hag have shown themselves more amenable to adapting to circumstances and have consistently rebuilt winning teams. Whether the Red Devils are better off looking elsewhere or have already set their eyes on Pochettino remains to be seen.
