Transfer News: West Ham United set to face battle in the summer to keep hold of Manchester United target Declan Rice
According to transfer news on The Telegraph (Subscription Required), West Ham United are braced for summer bids as they look to hold on to Manchester United target Declan Rice. He is one of the most sought-after players in the Premier League following his progression over the last two years.
Rice is on the radar of heavyweights like Manchester City and Chelsea alongside the Red Devils. All three clubs have been boosted by West Ham’s lack of incomings in the January transfer window. They are ready to test the latter’s stance next summer if they fail to have a successful season.
The England international had previously rejected two contract extensions indicating how the Hammers could have it tough to keep him without adequate success. He is still tied down until 2024 with an option to extend the deal by another year, and that could certainly give them a bit of leeway in the short term.
The Hammers value the 23-year-old at £100million or more, but they could be forced to consider a lower bid due to his contract situation. He had expressed his desire to play in the Champions League and win titles, so the lack of signings last month could be detrimental for David Moyes’ side.
Could we get Rice?
Looking at how the West Ham star has fared in recent times, it would be a wise move to add him to our squad. He has been a midfield powerhouse for the club and national team, playing a big part in their recent success- albeit without silverware. David Moyes’ side, meanwhile, has dropped off in recent weeks after a strong start to the season.
The lack of depth has affected the former Red Devils boss in the past few fixtures as they are engaged in multiple competitions. Since they have not seen any incoming in January, it could certainly impact their chances of competing with the PL heavyweights for a top-four spot.
We are engaged in direct competition with the Hammers to qualify for the Champions League next season. If Ralf Rangnick can push us to a top-four finish in the league, then we would certainly become an even more attractive prospect for any potential incomings.

The interest from Man City and the Blues would be a problem, but the Hammers ace did previously admit that he loves playing at Old Trafford. A club of our size, with our history and current squad, it is not wrong to suggest that we should be the favourites to pip the Hammers for a top-four spot.
It is rare to find a top-level player that settles for a team that does not compete for meaningful objectives on a regular basis. The pressure is now on West Ham to really jostle with the big boys in England or run the risk of losing one of their best players in recent memory.
