Manchester United face competition for Leeds United midfielder Kalvin Phillips next summer

According to Daily Mail Online, Manchester United will have to battle it out with added competition from multiple clubs for the services of Leeds United midfielder Kalvin Phillips. He broke through to the scene following his excellent performances for the national team at Euro 2020.

Man United are keen on signing Phillips to boost their midfield, which has been overrun by opponents several times this season. They would face tough competition from the likes of Real Madrid, Bayern Munich, Paris Saint-Germain and Liverpool with the summer transfer window in mind.

The Merseyside club have been linked with a £33.4million transfer bid for the England international. However, Leeds are not willing to part ways with their prized asset next summer. They realise the tough battle at hand in the future and are more willing to let him leave to a club outside of England.

Tough challenge?

We have to get through a lot of obstacles if we want to get the signature of the 26-year-old in the future. The attention from all these European giants is an obvious reason, while the Whites’ intentions of not letting him leave would also add to it. That is without even considering Champions League football, which the player has a desire of playing in eventually.

We cannot overlook Marcelo Bielsa’s side’s preference to sell the Englishman to clubs abroad which acts against our interest. Not to mention, our intense rivalry with them does not help in any sort of way, plus the player himself is a Leeds fan as well. He has been a one-club man since his youth days, so it would be a huge challenge waiting for us up ahead.

It remains to be seen how this situation will pan out in the coming months, but we must overcome these issues one by one to have a chance at signing the Whites star. We would need to qualify for the CL next season, which is not guaranteed at this moment, as we are engaged in a tightly contested battle for a top-four finish in the Premier League.

The interested parties are better than us in sporting terms, so we would need to have stability in many areas before expressing our case. That would also mean that the board should sort out the managerial uncertainty to give the England star an idea of the project we are building under our future manager. Only time will tell what lies in store for us regarding this subject.
