“He knows me”- Man United loanee expresses how Chelsea legend influenced his January move

Can Donny van de Beek finally succeed at Man United?

Manchester United loanee Donny van de Beek explains how Frank Lampard can help him at Everton

Manchester United loanee Donny van de Beek has clearly expressed that Frank Lampard can help him a lot at Everton. Both of them joined the Merseyside club during this January transfer window as they look to get their respective careers back on track.

Van de Beek has left Man United to join the Toffees for the remainder of the 2021-22 season. The latter would pay £500,000 as loan fees while covering his entire wages, which is worth £100,000-per-week. They beat Valencia and Crystal Palace to the race, which would come as a big boost for them as they try to steer clear of the dropzone.

Speaking to the club’s media (h/t Everton official website), the Dutchman has revealed how Lampard had an impact on him when he was deciding to move to Goodison Park. He added that the Everton boss could help him a lot since both of them had played in a similar sort of position in midfield.

“I had a really positive meeting with the new coach. We have the same ideas about football and he had a lot of influence on my decision. I played against him when I was at Ajax, and he was at Chelsea [as manager], so he knows me as a player. He thinks I have qualities that can help the team. I can learn a lot from him because he was a little bit in the same position – a midfield player who scored a lot of goals. He can help me a lot, so I think I’m in a good spot.”

A good move?

This loan deal could be just what the 24-year-old needs at this instant to rediscover his form. It was really unfortunate what happened to him throughout his time at Old Trafford. He was constantly overlooked by Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and the situation did not change under Ralf Rangnick.

Just like the Red Devils star mentioned above, playing under the Chelsea legend could help him reach new heights due to their positional similarities. The latter is widely recognised as one of the best midfielders the Premier League has ever seen and if van de Beek can remotely mirror Lampard’s goal-scoring abilities, we would have some player on our hands.

It seems like we have finally done some justice for the Dutchman, who has recently lost his place in the Netherlands national team. This move gives him a pedestal to impress his bosses at Old Trafford while also showing our potential permanent manager what he can bring to the table. That is without even considering the monetary benefits that this deal brings in the short term.

Everton have also signed Dele Alli from Tottenham Hotspur on deadline day. Hopefully, the Englishman doesn’t do for van de Beek what Bruno Fernandes did for him at Old Trafford- hogging the number 10 position and effectively sidelining the ex-Ajax ace. Then again, van de Beek can also play as a central midfielder- a number 8 or a number 6- and there is no reason why the two cannot start together under Lampard.
