Manchester United still hesitant on letting Donny van de Beek leave on loan transfer
According to Manchester Evening News, Manchester United continue to be hesitant about allowing Donny van de Beek to leave on a loan deal in the January transfer window. He has been linked with an exit from Old Trafford for quite a while, but this update would be concerning with the deadline date looming closer with each passing day.
Van de Beek is on the radar of Crystal Palace, who are keen on taking him away to boost their squad. However, Ralf Rangnick would prefer to keep hold of him to maintain the depth in the midfield options ahead of a long season ahead. This stance questions why the midfielder was offered to Borussia Dortmund and Newcastle United in the first place.
The Dutchman has not taken lightly to this situation as he is “upset” with Man United over their treatment. He wants to leave the club in search of more minutes, having lost his place at the national team setup. There is a belief among his camp that he got misled with false premises in his second season at Manchester.
DVDB away from Man Utd?
It is not a good look when Man United still have not reached a decision on van de Beek this late in the transfer window. The 24-year-old could not gather many minutes under his belt, even when Paul Pogba was out injured for a long time. That is without considering how Jesse Lingard was cast aside by Rangnick.
Pogba will soon be in line to return around February, so we are bound to see a situation where the Dutch international would face more obstacles in his way. The change to a 4-3-3 system further reduces the need for an additional central midfielder, unlike the case of the 4-2-2-2 formation initially used by the boss.
After taking all these reasons into consideration, it would be wise if the Red Devils facilitated a loan for the attacking midfielder as soon as possible. It would be a waste if he just sits on the sideline like he has done until now since joining us back in 2020.
With Palace having shown an interest, the board should look to part ways with him for the season. A short-term move would hand us a decent sum while reducing the wage bill, at least for the time being, and may even help the Dutch midfielder recapture some of the form he showed at Ajax.
That is always good compared to just letting him be on the bench for no apparent reason. Time will give us an answer whether the Dutch star would stay with us or will be moving out before next month.

As for van de Beek, his frustrations are understandable. No player in the prime physical years of their career would want to hog the bench and fall down the pecking order in the national team set-up subsequently.
Our club has failed to give him regular starts, under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and Rangnick both, and it remains to be seen if the club will be sympathetic to his situation and let him choose a path he thinks is best for his career, at least in the short term.
