According to the club’s official site, Manchester United have been handed a boost regarding the availability of Scott McTominay ahead of the Premier League clash against West Ham United next weekend.

The 25-year-old returned to action against Brentford yesterday night after sitting out of our game against Aston Villa at the weekend. He put in an excellent performance and was one of Man United’s best players on the night.

There was a moment of concern when he looked to have picked up a knock. The Scotland international appeared to injure his back and was taken off midway through the second half. Speaking after the game, Ralf Rangnick confirmed that the player was taken off after receiving a knock on his back.

“He got a knock on the back and couldn’t breathe properly.”

Thankfully, it does not appear as if McTominay is seriously injured and should be available for the upcoming game against West Ham United. Rangnick went on to add that he has had a word with the player and has received a positive appraisal from him regarding his condition.

“I spoke to him in the locker room [after] and he should be okay for Saturday.”

While he may not be the most dynamic presence in the middle of the park, McTominay is a dependable player on his day and an asset to the Red Devils squad. He showcased just what he can do when in form last night and put in a commanding performance in the centre of the pitch.

McTominay’s performance was not lost on Rangnick who praised the player for his outing. The Scot not only got stuck in but also played a key role in our second and third goals of the night.

With games coming thick and fast, we must have our best and in-form players available. McTominay is currently one of the latter and could yet play a major role in our season. Whether he will start the game at the weekend or will find a place on the bench remains to be seen.

But given the status he has received under both Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and Rangnick, it wouldn’t be wrong to think that the German manager would be hoping he can start the Scotsman.

If he has to be on the bench, then we have Donny van de Beek to play in midfield. The Dutchman has struggled for minutes ever since he joined us from Ajax and would certainly appreciate it if he can start getting a regular role in the starting XI, especially with the FIFA World Cup in Qatar edging closer by the day.
