Transfer News: Napoli “offer” David Ospina to Manchester United
According to Area Napoli via Sport Witness (h/t The Mirror), Napoli have “offered” the services of David Ospina to Manchester United in an attempt to offload him for a modest amount. He has found life difficult due to the presence of Alex Meret and is deemed to be surplus to requirements.
Ospina has attracted interest from other clubs like Flamengo and Al-Nassr FC but there is no information on whether Man United would pounce on this offer. He would prefer to stay within Europe, so he could accept a move to Old Trafford if they register their intention to sign him.
The 33-year-old has entered the final six months of his current deal and could sign a pre-contract agreement with foreign clubs this month. The Red Devils’ second-choice goalkeeper Dean Henderson has expressed his desire to leave Manchester United as a result of not finding enough game time. Ralf Rangnick has refused to accept those demands for now, but it remains to be seen whether that stance remains the same in the next couple of weeks.
Perfect opportunity?
Henderson has made just two appearances for the first team this campaign. His lack of game time has been a result of David De Gea’s resurgence in recent times. That clearly puts into perspective why the Englishman has asked to leave in the January transfer window.
It is disappointing to see someone of his quality rotting on the bench and it seems harsh that Rangnick hasn’t approved a loan deal for him this month. But it could be that very same quality that has caused our boss to keep him at the club in order to have healthy depth in the goalkeeping department.
However, this is bound to cause unrest in the future, and we do not want that to happen as the 24-year-old can be our first-choice option once De Gea leaves Old Trafford- whenever that turns out to be the case. This disagreement could potentially lead to a clash and may rob us of an opportunity to use the England international in the future. Nothing indicates that yet but that remains a possibility, albeit a small one.
But should we accept the offer to sign the Colombian, an opportunity would arise to solve the situation surrounding the future of our No.2 keeper. He could be loaned out elsewhere where game time can be guaranteed while we would have someone as a backup who could play a handful of games in a season.

But whether the English club would accept the proposal or not remains to be seen in the coming days. But if we go by the line of reasoning given above, it could create a problem if Henderson stays at Old Trafford while Ospina is here.
So, it is fair to say that Ospina’s signing may well hinge on Henderson’s future at Old Trafford. Signing him while the England international is still a Red Devil makes no sense, but if he were to leave, then the ex-Arsenal man can do a job for us.
