Cristiano Ronaldo 20th, Manchester United star Casemiro 17th in 2022 Ballon d’Or rankings

Manchester United duo Cristiano Ronaldo and Casemiro have finished 20th and 17th, respectively, in the 2022 Ballon d’Or rankings, according to France Football on Twitter.

The Portuguese rejoined the Red Devils in the summer of 2021, having left in 2009 for Real Madrid. After a successful spell in Spain, the 37-year-old made his way to Juventus.

And the five-time Ballon d’Or winner made a homecoming to the Theatre of Dreams last year. Ronaldo’s return was met with a lot of fanfare and he did not disappoint.

The Portuguese finished as United’s top goalscorer in all competitions last season with 24 goals. Last year, the 37-year-old also broke the record for the most goals scored by a player for their national side, previously held by Iranian legend Ali Daei.

Ronaldo won the first of his five Ballon d’Or’s when he was still at United in 2008. The 37-year-old later went on to win it four more times with Los Blancos.

The Portuguese recently reached another milestone in his career. The forward scored his 700th club career goal against Everton on 9 October in the 2-1 win at Goodison Park.

On the other hand, Casemiro arrived at the Old Trafford side in the summer of 2022 from Madrid. The 30-year-old won the La Liga title and Champions League under Carlo Ancelotti with the Spanish giants.

The former Madrid duo have not had the best of starts to the 2022/23 campaign. Ronaldo seems to not have his shooting boots on this season, while Casemiro still appears to be settling into Erik ten Hag’s plans.

Hopefully, the Portuguese and Brazilian will find the form that has placed them among the elites over the years. However, it remains to be seen whether the duo are able to replicate their rankings in the next edition of the Ballon d’Or.
