Harry Maguire claims he completely trusts Manchester United boss Ralf Rangnick despite recent struggles

Speaking to the club’s official websiteHarry Maguire claimed that he is ready for the ‘fight’ and completely trusts Ralf Rangnick despite the recent struggles at Manchester United.

The 28-year-old star has had to lead a tough squad this season. Maguire may have found things relatively simpler last term, but the expectations of winning titles, coupled with the additions of some world-class names to the squad, has really changed the picture at Old Trafford this season.

Since the start of the campaign, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has been sacked following a disappointing run of games. Ralf Rangnick, too, is yet to stamp his footprint on the side. The German manager has come under slack recently, while there have also been claims of unrest in the dressing room.

Regardless, Maguire has claimed that he is ‘ready for the fight’ and fully trusts the gaffer and his methods.

“I’m the captain and leader in the dressing room, and I’ve had private conversations with the players and the management, which will remain private. Make no mistake about it, I’m here for the fight, and I know my teammates are. I expect them to be, and if they’re not then, – like I said – there’s something wrong.

“His (Rangnick) detail and preparation are enormous; we have full respect and trust in his methods. Yes, it’s difficult when the coaching team changes mid-season, as it does at loads of clubs. [But] I will say it again – it’s down to us as players.”

Captain material?

There have been too many apologies this season and few improvements. The English centre-back has been our captain for quite a while now but needs to start leading the team. Cristiano Ronaldo may be the top dog in the dressing room, but there needs to be a way to deal with such superstar figures.

Additionally, it has only been a month since Rangnick arrived at Old Trafford. The players are yet to work according to his methods but Maguire needs to be the first person to come out and defend his boss. The centre-back also arguably needs to be the best player in his position.

A captain is supposed to be the calming presence in a team. But it did not bode well that Phil Jones, who played his first match in two years against Wolves on Monday, had a better game than Maguire. Lack of consistency in quality makes supporters and teammates doubt the credentials of a captain.

Things certainly do not appear jolly at Old Trafford, but they are not irreparable. The Top 4 race is still within reach, and our Champions League ambitions are still intact. The FA Cup is also set to begin, and a victory against Aston Villa on Monday will put smiles on a lot of faces of the Old Trafford faithful.

As for the former Leicester City man, the season isn’t beyond saving for him as well. He has had a rocky time during the campaign but must now focus on getting the basics right, putting in consistently good performances, and taking things from there.
