Transfer News: Manchester United set out terms of a potential January loan exit for Donny van de Beek

According to transfer news on ESPN, Manchester United will consider loan options for Donny van de Beek in January if prospective suitors cover his wages and provide a loan fee.

The 24-year-old star sealed a £40million move to Old Trafford in the summer of 2020 but it has been anything but a dream transfer for him. The former Ajax star only received four starts in the league last season, and things did not change under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer this term either.

Michael Carrick did play him during his tenure as caretaker, but Ralf Rangnick has not handed chances to the wantaway star. He has, however, promised the player of game-time in the second half of the season. The German apparently does not want to trim his squad mid-season.

Van de Beek is ready to stay in January but has reservations about receiving increased minutes in the coming minutes. Man United are ready to consider loan options submitted by the player’s representatives but want any potential buyer to cover his wages in full and also provide a loan fee. Nevertheless, Rangnick shall apparently be given the final say on any potential exit.

Should Donny van de Beek be allowed to leave Man United?

The player is contributing little at the club, nor has he been given the chance to do the same. There is very little idea behind why he has been kept at the club for the last 18 months. Solskjaer, too, had no reason to persist with the player, who ironically scored the final goal of the Norwegian’s era at Old Trafford.

It makes sense that Rangnick does not wish to trim the squad but keeping a player of his talent on the bench is of no use. Moreover, the Dutchman is not being selected despite questionable performances from our midfield line, as evidenced in the recent defeat against Wolves.

Additionally, Nemanja Matic is ageing and has 18 months on his contract. Paul Pogba also has less than six months on his deal and could exit as a free agent in the summer. Thus, Van de Beek could become an integral player next season, but the Dutchman wants to form a part of his national squad for the 2022 World Cup.

It is wise to keep him, but the German boss should also use him. The 24-year-old has sufficient experience in the Champions League and could prove vital if we go deep into the competition. The FA Cup is also set to start soon, and the midfielder would be hoping to play in those games. Thus, Rangnick needs to live up to his promise to the player over the next six months.

And in that process, we could get to see the very best of van de Beek, who set Europe alight during his time at Ajax where he partnered Frenkie de Jong in their midfield.
