Transfer News: Jose Mourinho and AS Roma to battle Manchester United in the pursuit of Boubacar Kamara

According to La Repubblica (h/t The Sun), Jose Mourinho will look to play spoilsport as Manchester United look to make their move for Marseille star Boubacar Kamara.

Kamara will see his current contract at Marseille expire in the summer of 2022. The 22-year-old came through the youth system at the Stade Velodrome and is a key member of the Les Olympiens squad. He also captained the side this season, giving a further indication of his leadership prowess.

Possessing excellent potential, the Frenchman has the best years of his career ahead of him. Landing him on a free next summer would prove to be an excellent piece of business for the Old Trafford outfit.

Manchester United want Boubacar Kamara.

With the January transfer window now open, Kamara is free to discuss a pre-contract agreement with foreign clubs. Mourinho has wasted no time in making overtures to the player and his representatives and the Italian team has apparently opened talks with the midfielder over a potential deal.

Mourinho to spoil United’s party?

AS Roma have enjoyed mixed fortunes under Mourinho and will need to bring in the right players to strengthen the squad. They remain keen on Kamara and it remains to be seen if they can steal a march on their rivals in the race to land the 22-year-old.

This will bring them in competition with Man United, who are also keen on the player. Interim manager Ralf Rangnick is sold on Kamara’s abilities and believes he will fit in well at Old Trafford. An able defensive midfielder in and out of possession, he should slot in seamlessly into the pressing machine that the German manager is seeking to build at Old Trafford.

Despite Roma looking to seize the initiative, all is not lost for the Red Devils. Kamara appears to be open to the idea of a lucrative payday at Man United. While it is good to know we have an advantage, it is worrisome that the player appears to view us as just another means to a bigger paycheque.

Kamara is a free agent next summer.

Negotiations between Man United and Marseille appear to be at an advanced stage and it remains to be seen if they can get the deal over the line. With the prospect of losing the player on a free a real possibility, it remains to be seen if the Ligue 1 side is willing to sell Kamara on the cheap this month.

Man United have several issues to rectify in their squad and the midfield is just one of them. While Kamara may not be the very best option out there, he is certainly a promising one and is also potentially available for free. Rangnick has shown himself to be an astute judge of talent at Hoffenheim and the Red Bull group.

His appraisal of the 22-year-old should at the very least convince the Red Devils that they could be landing themselves a top prospect. Moreover, we may already be seeing one French midfielder leave us at the end of the season in Paul Pogba.

And with Nemanja Matic not getting younger, someone like Kamara can future-proof our midfield while also providing a solid option in the short term as well. But only time will tell if Mourinho spoils our party, granted our intentions to land Kamara are real.
