According to SkySports, Manchester United are closing in to select Ewan Sharp as an assistant manager, who was a member of Ralf Rangnick’s team during his Lokomotiv Moscow days.

After the arrival of Rangnick as an interim manager, Manchester United assistant manager Michael Carrick left the club. Recently, another first-team coach, Kieran McKenna, left his role to join League One team Ipswich Town.

Manchester United signed former Toronto FC manager Chris Armas to fill up the void left by Carrick. But with McKenna’s departure, another post became vacant.

Ewan Sharp was working with Lokomotiv Moscow with Ralf Rangnick. But these two go far back. While working at New York Red Bulls, the current interim manager discovered Sharp, who was working as a performance analyst.

Prior to the Lokomotiv Moscow role, Sharp spent six months with MLS side Toronto FC and worked alongside Chris Armas. Sharp has vast experience in opposition scouting, match planning, in-match and post-match analysis.

The move from Manchester United to name him as an assistant manager would reunite him with Ralf Rangnick, who is currently shaking things up at Old Trafford. With his trusted men in place, the German has a better chance of getting his vision across.

Rangnick gave some good results after becoming the interim manager. While there is still scope to improve, results have picked up and we look tactically better drilled.

The German manager would have to do a lot of work to make the Red Devils title contenders again. But his tactics’ success is evident with the recent performances of certain players. Fred showed extensive work during pressing, which was rare under Ole Gunnar Solskjær reign.

Whether the inclusion of Sharp brings more glory to the team remains to be seen. But from his previous work, it’s evident that the manager has a lot of experience in the field, which could help United in the current season.
