Transfer Update: Barcelona and Corinthians yet to approach Manchester United for January move for Edinson Cavani

According to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, Barcelona and Corinthians are yet to launch a bid to seal a move in January for Manchester United ace Edinson Cavani.

The 34-year-old has only made 2 league starts for the Red Devils this season. The arrival of Cristiano Ronaldo and Jadon Sancho, coupled with the existing competition, has restricted the game-time for the Uruguayan, albeit he has been out with an injury for the past month.

However, his contract shall be up in the summer. There have been rumours relating to a move to Barcelona while a return to South America could also be on the cards, with Corinthians also interested, according to Tuttosport (h/t The Sun).

But neither club has apparently made an effort yet to lure him out of Old Trafford. It is also thought that the centre-forward is considered an important part of the Man United squad.

Good news?

Cavani might eventually leave in the summer, but he remains a crucial cog in the side. The South American star is yet to feature under Ralf Rangnick, but that might happen in the coming weeks. Consistent minutes have been an issue, but if there is one thing the German boss likes, it is hard-working individuals.

The Uruguayan international is certainly one of them, given the amount of running he does when his team is out of possession. Moreover, his professionalism off the pitch and scintillating abilities on it make him a leader and a role model for the young stars.

Thus, it is a good thing that Barcelona and Corinthians are yet to launch a bid for him. It would also make little sense to offload him six months before his potential departure as the club might not be able to demand a high transfer fee for his services.

Additionally, we are still competing in the UCL and are vying for a Top 4 spot in the Premier League. The FA Cup shall also come into the fold next month. Thus, there is a lot to fight for, and Rangnick would need quality depth in the ranks to achieve these targets– something Cavani certainly provides, given the number of years he has spent playing at the top level.

Moreover, the prospect of seeing Cavani and Ronaldo playing together- two of Europe’s elite goalscorers over the years- in Ralf Rangnick’s 4-2-2-2 also remains a highly tasty prospect.
