South American club trying to tie 21-year-old Manchester United target to new contract

Transfer News: River Plate hoping to get Julian Alvarez to sign a new contract amidst Manchester United interest

According to transfer news on ESPN Argentina, River Plate are hoping to tie down Julian Alvarez to a new contract amidst interest from Manchester United.

The Argentinian outfit lifted the league title this month and are now hoping to keep their prized assets at the club. They have tied down Enzo Fernandez to a long-term deal and are hoping to do the same with Julian Alvarez.

The 21-year-old scored 18 goals and provided 7 assists in 21 appearances this season. His performances have seen several clubs, including Man United, take an interest in landing his services.

Alvarez is in the final year of his deal, and the Red Devils could either seal a move this winter or sign him on a free transfer in January 2023. The striker is also thought to have a £17million release clause that rises to £21million in the final 10 days before the transfer window opens.

Get the deal done!

If the Argentinian international commits to a new contract soon, it shall become an uphill task to secure his signature. It is already likely to be tough to lure him to Old Trafford since Bayern Munich, AC Milan, Atletico Madrid, and Juventus are also interested in signing him.

Man United are braced for a couple of exits in the coming transfer windows. Anthony Martial has made it clear that he wants to leave

, as relayed by his agent. Edinson Cavani has also garnered interest from Barcelona as he has a little over six months on his current contract, as per Marca
(h/t The Express).

Jesse Lingard might also depart as a free agent in the summer. Thus, their exits could free up space in the squad and on the wage bill. The youngster could act as a deputy to Cristiano Ronaldo or even play alongside him before leading the line himself if he proves to be worthy enough to assume that role when the time comes.

More Manchester United News

The South American ace has a bundle of energy and is lethal in front of goal. Marcus Rashford has shown in the past that his strengths lie on the left-hand side, while Mason Greenwood and Jadon Sancho have been excelling on the right. Thus, it would not hurt to seal a move for a striker that is willing to play through the centre and become a mainstay in the team for years to come.

It would also mean keeping him away from the reaches of some of our rivals in European football. We missed out on Erling Haaland in 2019 and that really could have changed the course of our recent history. While Alvarez is no Haaland, there is no harm in taking a punt.
