Barcelona are closing on a renewal agreement with Manchester United target Ousmane Dembele
According to Movistar (h/t SportsMole), Barcelona director Mateu Alemany has revealed that they would be able to bind Manchester United target Ousmane Dembele to a new deal before the end of the year.
Ousmane Dembele has been a talented star who failed to make it to the top at Barcelona. The injury-ridden forward has struggled in every season to feature in games. This campaign has been no different as the 24-year-old has only made seven appearances for the Catalan team.
The then-record signing for Barcelona hasn’t been profitable for the club’s progress. However, the Catalan club is reluctant to give up on the world cup winning star. It is believed that Joan Laporta’s board are closing in on a renewal agreement with the French man.
Barcelona director Mateu Alemany in a recent interview, suggested that his team would be able to bind him to a new contract inside this month.
“Ousmane Dembele always told us that he wants to stay here. We’re in a key moment – we expect to resolve the situation before the end of the year.”
This could be a massive blow to the teams that targeted him and wanted to take the opportunity of his adverse term with Blaugrana. Manchester United, Liverpool, Chelsea and Newcastle United are the teams that would be seriously disappointed by Barcelona’s stance.
Even though the Red Devils have plenty of options in the forward position, most of them haven’t stepped up this season. Jadon Sancho, Marcus Rashford and Jesse Lingard all have failed to give consistent performances throughout the campaign.
There is considerable pressure of expectations on Cristiano Ronaldo amid such a scenario. Even though he has delivered in the past few weeks, betting the season only on the Portuguese star could turn out to be harmful in the long term.

The arrival of Ousmane Dembele could have injected fresh legs into the squad. But Baracelons’ current stance suggests that United would have to find other alternatives in the market. A reinforcement in the transfer window is required who can partner up with Ronaldo upfront and can guarantee goals.
