Transfer News: Manchester United joined by Bayern Munich in race to sign Borussia Dortmund star Jude Bellingham
According to transfer news on BILD (h/t The Sun), Bayern Munich are keen on landing Borussia Dortmund star Jude Bellingham amidst interest from Manchester United.
The 18-year-old has been a revelation for the Signal Iduna Park outfit. He joined them from Birmingham City last summer and has since scored 7 goals and provided 13 assists in 69 appearances. Thus, he is already a crucial player for the German club despite his tender age.
However, he is now being tracked by Europe’s elite. Man United are interested in adding him to their ranks, especially since Paul Pogba could leave Old Trafford in the summer. The Red Devils are also targeting Leeds United’s Kalvin Phillips and RB Leipzig star Amadou Haidara.
That would be a good thing because signing Bellingham is going to be hard. Bayern Munich have joined the race to sign him, which is not a surprise since they have poached some of their best stars in the past decade, a list that includes but is not limited to Robert Lewandowski, Mats Hummels, and Mario Gotze. Moreover, Liverpool have also identified the Englishman as their next midfield signing.
Star in the making
Bellingham has the world at his feet. In fact, with clubs like Bayern and Liverpool also interested, Man United would need to provide the midfielder with something special to lure him to the Theatre of Dreams.
It is well documented that the English international was courted by the 13-time Premier League champions last summer. He did join Dortmund instead, but the Manchester-based club does share a good relationship with the individual.
Man United need to use this relationship, if it still exists, to prevent him from joining their Premier League and European rivals. The midfielder is an exceptional talent and is bound to benefit any club he potentially signs for, courtesy of which it could be an expensive mistake to not sign him in the coming transfer windows.

Regardless, Dortmund hold all the cards in any negotiations for their prized asset. The player has a contract at the Bundesliga club until 2025, courtesy of which they can charge a high fee for him. Thus, while several clubs are interested in him, it remains to be seen what the Bundesliga giants and the player himself feel about moving to Manchester in the near future.
It’s not like we have a lot of world-class midfielders at our disposal for the future. Bellingham would be an instant contender to start games and can give us several years of service if we were to beat the competition to sign him.
