Spain goalkeeper David de Gea preparing to stay on at Manchester United for years to come
According to the club’s in house media (h/t Manchester Evening News), Manchester United star, David de Gea has revealed that he is keen to stay on at the club for years to come.
The Spaniard’s career at the club looked to be on the wane following an indifferent number of seasons in red. Last season’s Europa League final, in particular, stands out in the goalkeeper’s ‘to-forget’ list.
De Gea, however, has experienced a rebirth of sorts this season. He looks to be back to his best and was one of the few shining lights in Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s troubled final months in charge at Old Trafford.
At 31, De Gea is still young for a goalkeeper and has plenty of years at the top left in him. He is keen to stay on at Old Trafford and add more appearances and trophies to his tally. With Ralf Rangnick now at the helm, it could very well prove to be true.
“It’s been a long time [at United] but, hopefully, there are more years to come and more trophies to come.”
De Gea goes on to add that age has not dampened his ability and that he is still young enough to perform in his position. He continues to give his best in training and the impact of that can be seen in his performances of late.
“I feel maybe in one of the best shapes of my career. I feel very well. Maybe some people think I’m older because I’ve been in the game for many, many years but I am still young for a goalkeeper. I’m still learning every day, giving 100 per cent in training.”
As one of the veterans in the Red Devils squad, De Gea has a big role to fulfil in the years to come. There are a number of promising youngsters in the squad and they will do well to learn from the likes of the Spaniard.

With Dean Henderson breathing down his neck, De Gea has risen to the challenge well. How long he can keep the run going remains to be seen. Hopefully, it will not come to an end anytime soon. Goalkeepers tend to have a longer shelf life as compared to outfield players.
That bodes well for us considering his recent performances indicate he is still operating at the top level. He is a goalkeeper Rangnick can base his defence around.
