Manchester United ace Scott McTominay unfazed by “McFred” criticism from Red Devils fans

It is well known how the “McFred” duo of Scott McTominay and Fred have received criticism from the Manchester United fans for their performances, but the former has revealed that he is unfazed by it. Following the arrival of Ralf Rangnick, they have looked better as compared to earlier this season.

Man United were in a poor run of form under the reign of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, which had seen the team attract backlash from the supporters. The midfield duo endured much condemnation since many believed that their lack of quality was the reason for the slump.

Speaking in an interview with Sky Sports News, McTominay acknowledged the backlash and accepted it as a part of the game while conveying that he does not let himself be affected by it. He added how he deals with them while mentioning that he always gives his all to help the team.

“Sometimes games are difficult. We have had difficult moments this season as a squad, and us both as individuals, that’s part and parcel of the game. I have got nothing else to say other than I give absolutely everything, I am trying my best to improve, to learn.”

“A new coach has come in and I am doing everything that I can possibly do. You just have got to get on with it and be thick-skinned. People can say what they want but ultimately it’s me that’s in my own head, and I know what I am doing behind closed doors is the best thing.”

Right mentality?

It differs for different people how they choose to tackle a problem or take criticism. Some would let themselves get affected and it would then reflect in their performances. Others like the Scottish international would retain their composure and keep giving their best to help the team.

Fred and McTominay had to deal with heavy criticism from the supporters.

There have been times when the criticism he and Fred got were over the top, and there were times when it was warranted. Anyone following the team can attest to that. The Scotland midfielder should recognise that and improve his game for the betterment of the club.

Under Rangnick, they have fared well with the Brazil international especially showing his prowess. Similarly, the 25-year-old should also replicate what his teammate has done and make himself excel in the new system. Time will tell how the former would fare as games come by at a fast rate.

But as for the United fans, players expect us to be with them through thick and thin. Criticism is only helpful if it’s constructive in some way or the other. We should recognize where we draw the line in that regard and continue being the 12th man for our team on the pitch.
