Diogo Dalot lauds Manchester United star Fred after his winner vs Crystal Palace
Speaking to MUTV (h/t Manchester Evening News), Diogo Dalot spoke highly of Manchester United teammate Fred after the Brazilian secured all three points against Crystal Palace.
The central midfielder had a mixed game last week against the Gunners. He injured David de Gea for the first goal before assisting Bruno Fernandes for the equalizer. The 28-year-old also went on to win the penalty for the 2nd goal.
However, few were convinced that Fred could cut it under Rangnick. But to the surprise of many, he arguably worked the hardest out of all our players today and kept the ball ticking. He eventually got the love he deserved from United fans as he scored the winner 15 minutes from time.
Diogo Dalot, who also put on a stellar display, spoke highly of the South American star. He told MUTV (h/t Manchester Evening News):
“He (Fred) is the underdog. Everybody can criticise him, but he keeps his head clean, he goes inside the pitch, and every game he gives everything that he has – that is what this club is about.
“Even if you lose a ball, even if you lose a shot on goal, you are always going to try next and you are always going to fight for the team. That’s what we want. Players like that are what we want.”
Well-deserved goal
The Brazilian international has been the first to receive criticism this season. Any mistake in midfield has often been credited to him, and although he has made quite a few, it would be wrong to blame the box-to-box midfielder for all of our shoddy defending under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.
Rangnick is seemingly bringing the best out of these players in no time. The German manager had a laugh with the midfielder after the game, indicating the kind of relationship he has already formed with some of the players.
Fred was oozing in confidence and also helped in closing Palace down in the dying embers of the game. There is a team for Rangnick to build at Old Trafford and the former Shakhtar Donetsk man deserves to be a part of it.

However, this is just the start. He is sure to grow in confidence in the coming weeks and play a vital role in securing a Top 4 finish for us, as Rangnick looks to complete the job he was appointed for before handing it over to a permanent manager- if that is the route we end up going on.
The run of fixtures that we have now is something we must take advantage of. If the top teams can drop a few points here and there, it would be possible that we make the top 4 this season despite our poor start to the campaign.
