Transfer News: Manchester United to pay £8million bonus to Ralf Rangnick if he signs Borussia Dortmund star Erling Haaland
According to transfer news on BILD (h/t The Sun), Manchester United are willing to reward an £8million bonus to Ralf Rangnick if he manages to land Borussia Dortmund star Erling Haaland.
The Bundesliga goal monster is one of the hottest properties on the market. Understandably, several clubs are in the race to procure his services. However, Man United are liking their chances now, after the appointment of Ralf Rangnick.
The German boss was appointed partly due to his good relationship with Haaland’s representatives. His father, Alf Inge, and agent, Mino Raiola, were impressed by the manager’s footballing philosophy when Rangnick tried to convince the player to sign for RB Leipzig during his Salzburg days.
The move never took off but the gaffer did leave a positive impression on them. Man United are now apparently willing to pay the German manager a small fortune if he manages to secure the 21-year-old’s signature.
Do what it takes
The Norwegian international is bound to become a world superstar soon if he is not one already. His £70million release clause next summer makes him an attractive proposition to most clubs, but United are making an active effort to get him through the door.
This might be because he is likely to guarantee a ton of goals season after season. The club can be built around him, given his age, stardom, talent, and potential. Moreover, a strike partnership between him and Cristiano Ronaldo is just a mouth-watering prospect.
But the Portuguese international shall retire at some point in this decade, and Haaland will eventually become the poster boy. Thus, incentivizing Rangnick to bring such a player to the club makes a lot of sense.

The Norwegian might still choose to go someplace else, but given the presence of the German manager and the prestige of the club, Man United have more than a chance to land his signature. If they do, then the bonus paid to Rangnick would appear to be pennies indeed.
