Barcelona approached Manchester United regarding Anthony Martial
According to Ara (h/t Sports mole), FC Barcelona have enquired with the Manchester United board regarding the availability of French striker, Anthony Martial.
The Frenchman has struggled to live up to the expectations consistently at Old Trafford. Despite getting considerable opportunities this season, he has only bagged only one goal in nine appearances. Due to the lack of good performances, he has fallen down the pecking order at Old Trafford.
It is believed that the 25-year-old is eyeing a move away from Old Trafford in an attempt to rejuvenate his career. Martial’s stance could prove to be a godsend for Catalan giants, FC Barcelona.
The Catalan club bet on the expertise of Sergio Aguero last summer. Unfortunately, the Argentine superstar has been forced into early retirement due to heart problems. Having also lost Lionel Messi last summer, the Nou Camp outfit are short up front. Xavi is currently focusing on luring a forward player in the coming transfer window.
Barcelona have kept an eye on developments at Man United and have made their first move in their pursuit of Martial. It is believed that the Blaugrana club’s board have approached the Red Devils in recent times to discuss the specifics about a transfer.
Even though the Red Devils forward is looking like a fallen star in the current moment, he has given outstanding performances in the past. The 25-year-old bagged a staggering 23 goals and 12 assists in 48 appearances during the 2019/20 season.
Last season he missed several games due to a Ruptured knee ligament injury. It saw him settle for a modest goal output of seven goals and nine assists. While there has been talent, Martial’s inconsistency has often worked against him.
