Michael Carrick to remain in charge of Manchester United until Ralf Rangnick receives his visa
According to the club’s official website, Manchester United have confirmed that Michael Carrick will continue to stay in charge of the club until Ralf Rangnick receives his visa.
The 63-year-old was confirmed as the club’s interim-manager earlier today. He will remain in that position until the end of the season before taking over in an advisory role for the subsequent two years.
While the German will take over at Old Trafford, he will have to wait until his visa issues are sorted out. Until then Carrick will continue in his role as the caretaker boss.
Carrick has been in charge of the Red Devils for two games now. An impressive victory away to Villarreal was followed by a hard-earned draw against Chelsea at Stamford Bridge.
While the performances left much to be desired, the results can be considered acceptable given our recent run of form. There is little to suggest Carrick has what it takes to become a top tier manager but he can hold the fort until Rangnick takes over.
The Red Devils take on Arsenal on Thursday before facing Crystal Palace at the weekend. Both games are tricky and could prove to be an issue for us should we take them for granted. Whether Carrick will be in the dugout for any of them and whether he will keep his undefeated record intact remains to be seen.
Even with Rangnick now on his way, there is much work to be done at Old Trafford. The Red Devils have not just struggled for consistency this season but have also failed to display any sort of cohesion or identity at times.
The German boss has a history of turning clubs around and will hopefully repeat the trick at Man United. Returning the club to their rightful place on the perch will ensure Rangnick goes down in history as Ferguson’s true successor.
Fantasy aside, given that he has just half a season to work with, Rangnick will really have to work a miracle to take us to where we belong.
