In conversation with Bild (h/t Sports Mole), Borussia Monchengladbach director Max Eberl revealed that they would let Manchester United target Denis Zakaria go if the player doesn’t want to stay at the club.

The 25-year-old has been linked with not just Man United but also a host of other clubs like Juventus, Roma, and Arsenal. The Red Devils have struggled to assert their dominance in the middle of the park and could do with reinforcements.

The Manchester-based team preferred to play with a double pivot of Fred and Scott McTominay under former manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer. They continued in the same formation under caretaker manager Michael Carrick. Whilst the midfield duo have retained their position in the team throughout the season, there has been some heavy criticism of their performances in recent times.

They form the first line of defence for the Old Trafford outfit which has struggled to maintain a tight line at the back let alone keep a clean sheet. The likes of Harry Maguire and co have struggled against the top teams and their drubbing to Watford just showed the issues facing the side.

Eberl highlighted that Monchengladbach would not force any player to stay at the club against their wish. These comments coming in light of Zakaria’s current situation could mean that the German club would let him go for a suitable offer. This would be a much better option for them than the prospect of losing him for free next summer:

“If he (Zakaria), or any other player, tell us that they want to leave then we will sort it out. It would be crazy to fight someone if they want to go,”

The appointment of Ralf Rangnick seems like a matter of time rather than hope at this moment. The German manager is an excellent choice to lead Man United on an interim basis till the end of the season. The Red Devils could also do with a couple of excellent signings in the January transfer window.

David de Gea has been left to fend for himself on several occasions this season so the addition of another defensive midfielder would hopefully help his case. Zakaria has played 139 games across all competitions to date for Die Fohlen during which time he has scored 11 goals and provided seven assists. He has been a solid figure in the middle of the pitch for the German club and the red side of Manchester are in dire need of such a player at the moment.

Even though Monchengladbach would be willing to sell their prized asset, Manchester United would have to fight a plethora of suitors to bring the 25-year-old midfielder to Old Trafford.
