Manchester United chief could delay exit after Ole Gunnar Solskjaer sacking

Manchester United chief Ed Woodward likely to delay his exit after sacking Ole Gunnar Solskjaer

According to Sky Sports (h/t The Express), Manchester United chief Ed Woodward is unlikely to leave the club any time soon after sacking Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.

The 49-year-old joined the club 16 years ago, in 2005. He helped the Glazers rise to power and saw out the retirement of Sir Alex Ferguson in 2013. After the legendary Scot retired from management, Woodward became the vice-executive chairman of the club.

However, he has failed to guide the club to Premier League glory since the departure of Ferguson. David Moyes, Louis van Gaal, and Jose Mourinho all failed, although the latter did win the UEFA Europa League.

Regardless, a club with our stature should actively be competing for the big trophies. Ole Gunnar Solskjaer seemed to be the holy grail but he was sacked on the weekend by Woodward after suffering a disastrous start to the season, despite the heavy investment in the summer.

The club chief is now planning on delaying his exit. He announced his departure in April after the supporters protested against the European Super League. However, the sacking of the Norwegian boss could tempt Woodward to help out the new manager.

Michael Carrick has been appointed as the interim manager, but a new boss could soon be at the helm. Mauricio Pochettino is apparently the frontrunner for the job as he looks to quit PSG due to the big egos at the Ligue 1 club.

He had a stellar time in England with Tottenham

Hotspur and Southampton and could be interested in our project. Brendan Rodgers and Erik Ten Hag are also viable options, but they are committed to Leicester City and Ajax respectively.

Nevertheless, Woodward might stay at Old Trafford longer than fans expected as he looks to nail his next managerial appointment.
