Manchester United star Harry Maguire explains Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s final message to Red Devils stars
Speaking in his pre-match press conference (h/t The Metro), Manchester United star Harry Maguire has revealed what Ole Gunnar Solskjaer told the players before being sacked on Sunday.
It was a rather horrid weekend for the club captain. His rough challenge led to his side being down to 10 men against Watford, as they lost the game 4-1. After the game, there were a lot of boos surrounding Vicarage Road as the supporters made their feelings clear about the manager.
Solskjaer was sacked on the following morning through an official announcement by the club. The mood in the dressing room was not good as they were several players tearing up.
Maguire has now revealed that the players were ready to take responsibility for the poor run. He also explained what Solskjaer told the players before being sacked on Sunday.
“The players need to take responsibility for everything, we are the ones that cross that white line, we were in this together, management, staff and players. The manager has paid the price, and we are all so disappointed.”
While Maguire certainly says the right things, he has been unable to back it up with his performances on the field. To his credit, he admits that the team has not been good enough and revealed that the squad as a whole have respect for their now ex-manager.
“WE HAVEN’T BEEN GOOD ENOUGH, INDIVIDUALLY, AS A TEAM, BUT WE HAVE GOT TO LOOK FORWARD AND GET THE CLUB BACK TO WHERE IT ONCE WAS… THE MANAGER CAME IN AND SPOKE TO US. IT WAS AN EMOTIONAL, DAY. EVERYONE HAS GOT A HUGE AMOUNT OF RESPECT FOR OLE AND WHAT HE HAS DONE.”
Michael Carrick has since taken charge of the first team, and the club is now set for huge games in the coming weeks. Their first game against Villarreal was a nail-biter, with Cristiano Ronaldo scoring the winner in added time.

However, the rivalry between the two clubs goes back to the end of last season when the Yellow Submarine defeated United on penalties in the UEFA Europa League final. Thus, it is set to be another enthralling encounter, but without the Norwegian boss on the touchline.
It shall take some time to get used to that feeling, especially since the players admired him so much. But it is time for a change as the club look to win the biggest trophies again.
