Man United legend rules himself out of Old Trafford job, pledges allegiance to Championship club

Wayne Rooney commits his future to Derby County amidst links to becoming Manchester United manager

Speaking to Sky Sports (h/t The Sun), Wayne Rooney claimed that he shall keep working hard at Derby County despite links to becoming Manchester United manager.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer was sacked on the weekend after the defeat to Watford. The club is now out of the Top 6 and the EFL Cup but are still contesting in the UCL. However, a replacement needs to be appointed soon to get the season back on track.

Wayne Rooney has been linked with the job after he began his managerial tenure with Derby County last year. However, he remains committed to the job at hand and has ruled himself out of the running to manage his former club.

He told Sky Sports (h/t The Sun), that he feels sorry for the Norwegian before stating that he plans on continuing to work hard at Derby County.

“Firstly, it’s always sad when a manager loses his job, especially a former team-mate of mine. I feel for Ole. In terms of myself, I am committed to this club until I am told otherwise.

“I am Derby County manager, and I will keep working hard to get the best results on the pitch for this team.”

Rooney also voiced his displeasure over the players before claiming that they need to work harder. The all-time top scorer of England has endured a tumultuous time at Pride Park after his side were deducted 21 points for breaching financial rules.

And it does not look like he will leave his team in a tough period. However, there are other options for the Red Devils to pursue. Regardless, it is a fine squad, and the next manager needs to get the ball rolling soon as the club look to get back to the top of English football.
