David de Gea highlights the plight of the Manchester United dressing room after humiliating defeat to Watford

In conversation with Match of the Day (h/t Manchester Evening News), Manchester United goalkeeper David de Gea reveals the environment in the dressing room after their recent run of poor form.

Despite having a few shaky moments in goal in the last couple of seasons, the Spaniard has largely been a reassuring presence for the Red Devils. He has cemented his place in this team and has started to get back to his best levels once again with some impressive displays till now.

The same cannot be said for the other players at Man United. The defence has largely been shambolic at times and the loss to Watford was a stark reminder of that fact. Harry Maguire got sent off late in the match and Donny van de Beek was the only one who got on the scoresheet for the Manchester-based club.

The 34-year-old has revealed his frustration with the lack of competency that is shown in this quad at the moment. The Red Devils seem totally out of sync right now and have only managed one win in their last seven Premier League games. That victory came against Tottenham Hotspur and seems like it was light years ago.

de Gea spoke about his team’s current form. He also highlighted that the club has been going through a difficult moment with an inability to conjure any impressive performances:

“It’s hard to be in the dressing room now. We are sad, we are angry. Personally, I’m hurt – it’s a very difficult moment for the whole club. It was embarrassing – the way we played today. The first half was very poor – it’s not acceptable for this club and the level of players that we have. It’s another nightmare.

“There’s been some difficulties but I don’t really know what to say. I have been in difficult moments with this club but we are in a difficult situation – we don’t know what to do with the ball, we are conceding a lot of goals. It’s a horrible moment.”

David De Gea remains the undisputed first-choice at Manchester United

The former Atletico Madrid player has been one of the longest-serving players at Manchester United having played 457 matches for the Old Trafford outfit across all competitions till now. While the Red Devils have had to endure some tough times in the last few seasons, the sacking of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer may hopefully help steer the club in a new direction.
