Ajax manager Erik Ten Hag has rubbished links of becoming the replacement to Ole Gunnar Solskjaer at Manchester United

Speaking in an interview (h/t The Sun), Ajax boss Erik Ten Hag has reiterated that he has not been contacted by Manchester United to become the replacement to Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.

The Red Devils bid their good-byes to the Norwegian on Sunday following an abysmal defeat to Watford. However, they need to plan for the future and appoint a manager for this long-term project.

Ten Hag is one of the options on the list after his incredible achievements with Ajax. The Dutchman has won multiple league titles with the Eredivisie club and led them to the UCL semi-final in 2019.

However, he has already distanced himself from the rumours and reiterated that United have not contacted him.

“I am focused on my team; we have a brilliant squad, and we want to achieve a lot. My focus is on Ajax, and the rest only distract. I expect from my players that they are focused on Ajax, so I have to give the right example for that too.

“You keep asking me [about my position as Ajax boss]. Yes, it is a weird question. I have heard nothing about [United’s interest], so I can’t think about it.”

The 51-year-old can work on a budget and incorporate young players alongside the experienced bunch. This makes him a good candidate for the job, as does his attractive style of playing the game.

Zinedine Zidane and Mauricio Pochettino remain viable options, but the latter is still working at Paris Saint-Germain. The Frenchman is out of work and has previous experience of managing Cristiano Ronaldo and Raphael Varane. Regardless, they need to find a permanent replacement to Solskjaer to kick-start the season.
