Noel Whelan tips Tottenham Hotspur to sign Dean Henderson of Manchester United to replace Hugo Lloris
Speaking to Football Insider, Noel Whelan has suggested Tottenham Hotspur sign Manchester United star Dean Henderson as a long-term replacement for Hugo Lloris. This was following links that stated that Antonio Conte wants a successor to the Spurs skipper.
Henderson was in line to take the mantle from David de Gea after having a couple of disappointing seasons where mistakes were a common theme. However, with the added competition, de Gea took back his spot with his performances and the 24-year-old was sidelined to be the backup.
Earlier this week, the Englishman was told that he could leave on loan in the January transfer window to get some regular minutes. In the same week, Conte supposedly wanted a British goalkeeper to replace Lloris and had set his eyes on Jordan Pickford.
“When it comes to Jordan Pickford, we’ve seen the good and the bad over the past three seasons with Everton. International-wise, he’s been pretty much spot on. Domestic football, we’ve seen some massive blunders.”
Whelan assessed the situation and said that it is peculiar that Pickford is preferred ahead of the Red Devils goalkeeper. He acknowledged that the former has been good for his national side but warned that the same could not be said at the club level. He added how the United goalkeeper ticks the mark that the Italian demands.
“It’s a bit of a strange one for me. I know he’s an international, England’s number one but you’ve also got Henderson at Manchester United who wants out. He could be a good replacement for Tottenham as well.

While the Spaniard still has years left in him as a goalkeeper, you must have someone to back him up when necessary. The decision to let the England international leave has negatives and positives as the 31-year-old is still far from his best.
While his performances have been better, he still makes an occasional mistake like the one against Manchester City. But it would help him to get some game time, and circumstances could make way for a future at Old Trafford.
