Fabrizio Romano speaks about Manchester United midfielder Donny van de Beek and his current situation at Old Trafford

According to Fabrizio Romano, Manchester United midfielder, Donny van de Beek is still very passionate about the club but could opt for a move away from Old Trafford if continued to be excluded from the first-team squad.

The 24-year-old Dutch international has been struggling to make an impact with the Red Devils ever since his £35million switch from Ajax Amsterdam in the 2020 summer transfer window. Man United have had to endure some difficult results in the recent past and that has put a lot of pressure on Ole Gunnar Solskajer.

The Dutch midfielder hasn’t managed to get any quality time with the Red Devils which had led to speculation that he may leave the Manchester-based club in the coming January transfer window. The transfer guru highlights that the 24-year-old midfielder loves Man United and is trying his best. That being said if the situation is to stay the same then van de Beek could leave in the January transfer window.

The Dutch international came with a lot of hype and buzz at Old Trafford. He was part of the supremely talented 2019 Ajax team that made it all the way to the semi-finals of the UEFA Champions League that season. His late runs into the box as a No 10 were difficult for defenders across Europe.

Fabrizio spoke about the Dutchman on his YouTube channel and shed light on his current situation at Old Trafford and rumours of a move in January:

“If the situation continues like this with Solskjaer as the manager not trusting Donny van de Beek and not playing Donny van de Beek, I expect van de Beek to leave the club in January”

One of the reasons why van de Beek largely has to live in the shadows is that Bruno Fernandes who plays a similar role has made himself virtually undroppable from this Red Devils team. The Portuguese has gone on to single-handedly carry his team on numerous occasions with a bit more help from Cristiano Ronaldo this season.

With a double pivot of Fred and Scott McTominay preferred under the Norwegian manager, there doesn’t seem to be a place for another midfielder like Donny. This system has also largely reduced the playing time of another attacking midfielder Jesse Lingard who is also increasingly being linked with a move away from the club.

The 24-year-old midfielder hasn’t really got a substantial opportunity to prove himself at Old Trafford to date. There could be an increasing sense of frustration due to the lack of chances which means that it has become highly likely that van de Beek may leave the club.
