AS Monaco star Aurelien Tchouameni flattered by interest of several clubs, including Manchester United
Speaking to L’Equipe (h/t The Metro), AS Monaco star Aurelien Tchouameni has revealed that he is flattered by the interest of several clubs amidst links to Manchester United.
The 21-year-old had a stellar campaign last year under former Bayern Munich manager Niko Kovac. Tchouameni’s contribution enabled Monaco to finish 3rd in Ligue 1, just five points off Champions Lille. His performances also led to him being named the Ligue 1 Young Player of the Year last campaign.
The French international also helped Les Bleus win the UEFA Nations League last month. Understandably so, the player has garnered interest from Chelsea, Real Madrid and Man United, with the latter in ‘desperate’ need of a defensive midfielder.
However, these links have not fazed the former Bordeaux man. He told L’Equipe (h/t The Metro) :
‘My father called me, we talked about everything, and he told me that I was on the front page of Marca. I went on Twitter and saw for myself…The front page of Marca will not define me or allow me to perform well in matches.
‘It’s not real life, but it is the media world, the football business. They talk about me today, but tomorrow, they’ll be talking about another…It’s flattering, but I don’t wake up in the morning thinking about it.’

- Manchester United could make a move for Sevilla defender Jules Kounde in the January transfer window
The Red Devils shall have Paul Pogba leaving the club next year in the winter window or in the summer. Nemanja Matic will be in the final year of his contract next summer and is ageing. Donny van de Beek could force a transfer out of the club in January.
Thus, it is pivotal that the Old Trafford outfit gets a competent midfielder through the door. Given the age and potential of Tchouameni, he could become a mainstay in the midfield line for several years. Hence, United would have to land his signature before Chelsea or Real Madrid get their hands on him.
