Manchester United star Bruno Fernandes claims ‘it’s hard’ to play against Man City after derby day embarrassment

In a conversation with MUTV (h/t SkySports), Bruno Fernandes apologised to the Manchester United fans for making it ‘too easy’ for the opponents after the upsetting defeat against a ‘much better’ Manchester City side.

Manchester United suffered a horrific defeat at home at the hand of Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City. The red devils were outrun for most of the game as City dominated the possession. The scoreline doesn’t translate the whole story, as, without the incredible saves of David de Gea, it would have been much worse.

The home fans at Old Trafford did their part to motivate the players as much as possible from the stands. But the United team couldn’t replicate the same efforts on the pitch; thus, Bruno Fernandes apologised to the Red Devils fans for the embarrassing display.

“We just have to apologise to the fans, and that’s it because it was not good enough from us. Great atmosphere they create. They pushed us until the end, they tried to give that energy to us, but from us, it was not enough.”

The Portuguese player praised de Gea’s efforts as, without the Spaniards’ incredible saves, Guardiola’s team could have scored plenty more goals.

“As I said many, many times, if it was not David again, the result could be much more higher and worse for us.”

The 27-years-old midfielder accepted that City’s quality of football was much better than his team, and that’s why they lost the game.

“City was much better than us; They go around the pitch, they touch the ball many times, they make us run. It’s hard to play against them. They are good, and we knew that.”

Manchester United players would go to the international break next, and Fernandes suggests finding ways to do better than this. After the break, they are set to face Watford in an away clash. So, their abilities would be tested in that game and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer would be hoping for a dominant performance there.

Losses against Liverpool and City are still explainable considering those are two of the best teams in Europe right now, but what has really annoyed fans is United’s inability to dominate games against lesser opposition as well.
