Manchester United might not land Inter Milan ace Nicolo Barella after Antonio Conte joined Tottenham Hotspur
According to FCInterNews (h/t The Express), Manchester United might lose out on securing a transfer for Inter Milan ace Nicolo Barella after Antonio Conte joined Tottenham Hotspur.
The Italian midfielder has been sensational over the last two seasons and was a huge reason why the Nerazzurri lifted the Serie A title after Juventus’ decade long reign on the Scudetto. The 24-year-old excelled for the national team too, as he contributed heavily to Italy’s European Championship triumph this summer.
An excellent player, Barella can not only defend but also contribute heavily in the attacking phase of the game. At 24, he is primed to make a big move and could have added much to the Red Devils’ roster.
The Red Devils were linked with the player after it was revealed that Antonio Conte would want to bring his fellow countryman along with him to his new club after their successful time in San Siro.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer was facing the sack at Old Trafford, and the 52-year-old was touted as one of the replacements for the Norwegian. However, that move never panned out as Tottenham Hotspur instead sacked Nuno Espirito Santo and hired the former Chelsea manager.
This has now ruined United’s plans as Barella was thought to be ‘tempted’ by the chance to work with Conte at the theatre of dreams.

Although the Old Trafford outfit already possessess several stars in their midfield line, the Italy international could have added a youthful spice to the fold. However, it looks like that plan has now gone down the drain but in some positive news, the player is also not keen on joining Spurs, regardless of who is at the helm.
Thus, while United have missed out on a glorious opportunity to sign one of the marquee players of Serie A, they could plot a future move for the 24-year-old since he looks to be going nowhere at the moment.
