Manchester United suffer blow as Tottenham Hotspur look to appoint Antonio Conte
According to journalist Tancredi Palmeri (h/t The Express), Tottenham Hotspur are looking to appoint Antonio Conte amidst interest from Manchester United.
The North London club were tactically outwitted and outplayed by the Red Devils on Saturday evening as goals from Cristiano Ronaldo, Edinson Cavani, and Marcus Rashford hammered the nails into Nuno’s coffin at Spurs.
The all-round display by Tottenham was poor, and the club confirmed earlier today that they sacked the Portuguese boss. Daniel Levy & Fabio Paratici recently met to discuss the future of the club, and plans are already being plotted out to appoint a new man at the helm.
The London outfit are trying to lure Conte to the club before United even have a chance of doing so. Journalist Tancredi Palmeri broke the news out on his official Twitter account, stating (h/t The Express):
“Tottenham have contacted Antonio Conte. Did already last summer, and the offer was rejected. Now Paratici trying to burn Manchester United before they take a decision.”
The Red Devils are also weighing up the appointment of the former Inter Milan boss, and the 52-year-old was also said to be open to talking to the Old Trafford outfit. However, it feels like United’s stance on hiring a new manager has changed after Ole Gunnar Solskjaer displayed his tactical nous by reverting to a 3-5-2 formation to neutralise the opposition on the weekend.

Regardless, poor results against Atalanta and Man City could also pose a threat to the Norwegian’s job, and if a new manager needs to be hired, there are few better than Conte. Moreover, it is thought that the Italian manager is not keen on being appointed mid-season.
Thus, it remains to be seen whether the 2017 Premier League winning manager is available in the market, if and when the Manchester-based club sack Solskjaer.
