Leicester City boss Brendan Rodgers responds to links to Manchester United amidst calls to sack Ole Gunnar Solskjaer
Speaking in his pre-match press conference (h/t Manchester Evening News), Leicester City manager Brendan Rodgers responds to Manchester United links amidst calls to sack Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.
The Red Devils boss has come under intense pressure at Old Trafford in the past month despite the massive summer investment. Cristiano Ronaldo, Jadon Sancho, and Raphael Varane were supposed to make the Manchester-based outfit title contenders, but the reality has been far from it.
Their hopes of winning the Premier League and their Champions League aspirations could both take a massive hit in the coming week if the results do not their way. Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has been entrusted to pull off the job for the while, but poor performances could spell doomsday for the Norwegian during the international break.
If the 48-year-old is sacked, Leicester City boss, Brendan Rodgers, has been touted as one of the options on the list to potentially replace him. The Foxes manager has helped the King Power outfit secure two successive 5th placed finishes in the last two seasons and guided the club to an FA Cup victory.
The Northern Irishman has displayed his talents previously at Celtic and Liverpool as well. However, he has now downplayed the links to United. He told reporters in a recent press conference (h/t Manchester Evening News):
“I don’t even think about it. I’m sure the supporters are probably tired of it. At Leicester, there is always a link. My focus is always here with Leicester and developing the football club and challenging for honours. The directors, staff and players all have the same vision.”

Rodgers has a history of promoting youth into the team and incorporating them with the experienced talent at hand. Moreover, his tactical nous in games is something United could certainly benefit from.
Regardless, it remains to be seen whether the Old Trafford outfit can lure the former Liverpool and Celtic boss to Manchester, especially if Solskjaer is sacked mid-way through the season.
