Noni Madueke reveals why he joined PSV Eindhoven instead of Manchester United in 2018
Speaking to BBC Sport (h/t Sports Mole), Noni Madueke has explained why he snubbed Manchester United in 2018 and joined PSV Eindhoven instead.
The 19-year-old has been in exceptional form since last season and has been ripping apart teams in the Eredivisie. However, before he joined PSV, the winger was a budding talent of the Spurs youth system and was eyeing his next move.
The former U-18 captain of Tottenham has now revealed that he turned down the chance to sign for Chelsea or Manchester United as he wanted to progress quickly to the first team. Given the talent at hand at Old Trafford, it would take a lot for a youngster to break into the senior squad.
The youngster told BBC Sport (h/t Sports Mole):
“Chelsea, Manchester United, a lot of European clubs [made offers]. I came here one time and as soon as I came, I wanted to sign straight away. I knew going from Tottenham to United is pretty much the same thing.
“The reason I wanted to go was to progress quicker into the first team. PSV is a top European club. It made so much sense at the time, and it makes sense now.”
Madueke is now a target for major European clubs due to his scintillating performances. However, things could have been very different had he joined United.
