Manchester United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer hits back at critics of Cristiano Ronaldo after Atalanta performance
Speaking after the game (h/t The Sun), Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has hit out at the critics of Manchester United star Cristiano Ronaldo after impressive Atalanta performance.
The 36-year-old was criticised heavily after his less than impressive display against Leicester City on the weekend as the Old Trafford outfit slumped to a 4-2 defeat. However, the Portuguese was on hand to turn his doubters into believers against Atalanta as he headed home United’s winner on the day.
The centre-forward was all over the pitch in the second half as he was also closing down defenders and pressing them into making a mistake. Moreover, his winner was his third consecutive goal in the Champions League this season, after scoring against B.S.C Young Boys and the last-gasp winner against Villarreal.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer hit back at the player’s critics after the game pointing out what the club legend adds to their game. The Norwegian told reporters after the game (h/t The Sun):
“If anyone wants to criticise Ronaldo for attitude and work rate just watch the game and how he runs around, and he is great in front of goal. I was really pleased with how he led the line.
“We ask him to run the channels, to drop and press more because we are at home. He was even down inside our six-yard box defending. He did everything a centre forward should be doing, and of course, the goal is just what he does better than most.”
