Richard Arnold schedules meeting with Manchester United owner Joel Glazer amidst calls for sacking Ole Gunnar Solskjaer

According to The Guardian (h/t The Mirror), Manchester United managing director Richard Arnold has cancelled all meetings for the day to hold an emergency meeting with Joel Glazer amidst calls to sack manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.

The Norwegian has a dark cloud looming over his head after his side lost hopelessly against a well-drilled Liverpool team on home soil. A defeat would have been taken with a pinch of salt but a 5-0 humiliation is a cause for worry in the United boardroom.

However, the writing has been on the wall for some time now. United’s form before the international break was a sign of bad things to come, and their performance against Leicester and Atalanta proved to be warnings that went unheeded.

Although Solskjaer did have the backing of the hierarchy, club chiefs are now ‘seriously considering’ the future of the manager. Moreover, it appears as though the 48-year-old has also lost the dressing room.

Several players are now questioning the ability of the gaffer and whether he is the right man to take the club ahead. The investment has been sound over the last two seasons and it is only right that the hierarchy and the fans want to see the results of it now.

Additionally, Antonio Conte is said to be open to taking the job, which might certainly increase the pressure on the former Cardiff boss. Unlike Solskjaer, Conte comes with a resume that has seen him win the league in two top European leagues.

It is thought that Richard Arnold and Joel Glazer want to discuss the ‘plan of action’ from this position as the Red Devils could still suffer more embarrassment in the coming weeks.

Manchester City and Tottenham Hotspur would be ready to put Solskjaer out of a job, while a continuation of poor results could also knock them out of contention on different fronts. Things are tense at Old Trafford, and a big decision might be made over the future of the manager sooner rather than later.
