Richard Arnold is set to replace Ed Woodward as the executive vice-chairman of Manchester United by the end of 2021

According to SunSport, Manchester United are set to make a change in their top staff as Ed Woodward is set to be replaced by Richard Arnold as the club’s executive vice-chairman.

The Red Devils had a major uphaul when Sir Alex Ferguson left the club in 2013 because the club’s then-executive chairman, David Gill, also departed Old Trafford at the same time.

Thus, Ed Woodward was swiftly brought in to replace Gill, and it has been a topsy turvy ride for the soon-to-be 50-year-old. He has sanctioned massive investments over the last eight years and also played a role in bringing back club legend Cristiano Ronaldo this summer.

Richard Arnold to replace Ed Woodward?

However, the Manchester-based club are yet to win a major trophy during the Englishman’s reign as the executive vice-chairman. But changes are going to be made now as managing director Richard Arnold is set to take over things from Woodward.

Arnold joined United in 2007 as a commercial director after previously working at PricewaterhouseCoopers. He played a huge role in building the club’s commercial offices in London, Hong Kong, and New York. In 2013, he was bumped into becoming a managing director at the club.

However, it is understood to be a seamless takeover of duties as Woodward and Arnold share a great relationship, while co-chairman Avram and Joel Glazer have already agreed on this transition.

Moreover, Woodward has been willing to step down from the duties ever since the club failed to join the breakaway European Super League in April.

Regardless, Arnold will take over all the responsibilities by the end of this year and will now be the new point of contact for the Glazers.
