Manchester United starlet Anthony Elanga accuses Italian Under-21 opponent of racially abusing him

According to Sky Sports, Manchester United starlet, Anthony Elanga has accused an opponent of racially abusing him in the Under-21 clash between Sweden and Italy on Tuesday.

Both teams faced off in the Under-21 Euros qualifier in Monza that ended 1-1 at full time. The Azzurri looked to be heading for a 1-0 win before the last gasp equalizer drew Sweden level.

The game was however marred by Elanga’s revelations. The Swedish FA’s official site confirmed that the United ace had indeed been subjected to untoward comments amounting to racism.

Sweden U21s boss Claes Eriksson also weighed in on the issue. He confirmed that the Scandinavian side has submitted an oral report to both the referees and the match delegates.

“We have told our version of what happened and have submitted an oral report to both the referees and the match delegates.”

Sweden are now waiting for feedback from the match officials. They will decide the next course of action based on the response they get. Thankfully the team is standing behind Elanga and he is not in this fight alone.

“No one should have to be exposed to racism, it is completely unacceptable. We all stand behind and support Anthony in this.”

Perhaps unsurprisingly, the Italian Football Federation have dismissed the claims. Incidents of racism are not new in the Italian league and authorities have in the past failed to take the necessary action.

We hope the issue is resolved soon and that one way or another the truth prevails.

Elanga is one of United’s best prospects and has already made a name for himself with the Sweden Under-21s. Regardless of whether he is one of us or not, it is imperative that the incident be investigated and necessary steps taken to ensure such actions do not take place on a football field.
